Contemplating the transient and impermanent nature of your life will give you richer, happier, and more significant daily experiences. This can be done by purposefully contemplating and thinking about difficult things. Scenarios like what if so-and-so past away unexpectedly, you lost your job, or your car was stolen. Doing so will give allow you to have greater appreciation for the people and things you value most.
The rub here is that we already think about these negative things passively and unintentionally everyday. We have these unsavory mental movies play when we are driving, in the shower, doing the dishes, or doing monotonous chores. It is a natural defense mechanism to help prevent bad things from happening.
